Objectives

Train scholars in the field of Islamic Studies, and disseminate the principles of moderation and renewal among Muslims worldwide in order to combat fanatical and extremist ideologies.

Contribute to building a virtuous human community based on openness, cooperation, fairness, mercy, and peace through positive interaction among civilizations and cultures facilitated by interfaith and cultural dialogue.

Create a productive research environment, disseminating the Center’s publications through the Internet in English and Arabic in order to make them accessible for interested readers and researchers.

Provide Muslims who participate in interfaith dialogue locally and internationally with the techniques of fruitful and effective cooperation.

Contribute to the development of society by providing consultation on religious and cultural issues that concern Muslim societies.

Build databases to provide information for researchers and authors, and present academic consultation to the scholars who are interested in the Center’s specialty.

 Activities

The Center seeks to achieve its objectives through the following activities:

• Build a database of information related to Islamic moderation
• Build a specialized library of Islamic moderate thought.
• Produce a variety of publications, including:
• Books
• Papers on Islamic moderate thought, and on the pioneers of Islamic moderate thought
• Translations of selected and distinguished works
• Public lectures, roundtables, and conferences
• Host workshops on different applications of Islamic moderate thought.

 Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi International Prize for Islamic Studies

The College of Islamic Studies established a major international academic prize in honor of Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi. The prize recognizes Sheikh Al Qaradawi’s leading role in advocating for Islamic moderation and renewal, addressing contemporary issues through the application of jurisprudence balanced by the objectives of sharia and the essence of religion.

The Qaradawi Prize is awarded each year to one senior scholar and one young scholar for their contributions to the field of Islamic Studies and their role in enriching Islamic culture.

The prize aims to support scholarship that renews Islam through moderate thought and careful application of Islamic principles to modern society. Open to an international audience, the prize contributes to the convergence of world religious and cultural entities, deepening understanding of a common humanity through interfaith dialogue and cooperation.
