Symposium Overview
In collaboration with University College London (UCL), the College of Public Policy at Hamad Bin Khalifa University invites applications for a graduate student research and collaboration symposium in Doha, Qatar, on November 11, 2024.
The symposium aims to explore Islamic governance's foundational principles and values, offering new perspectives on public purpose and addressing societal challenges. We welcome applications from master's students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers with research papers on Islamic governance in progress. Participants will have the opportunity to present their research and receive feedback from a distinguished panel of scholars, practitioners, and policy experts. Applicants should submit a CV and a 250-word abstract of the paper they intend to present. Please provide the names and contact information of two references, who may be contacted if needed.
All participants will receive a travel stipend to cover costs between their country of residence and Doha, Qatar along with two nights of shared accommodation.
Decisions on proposals will be made by October 1, 2024.

Symposium Objectives
The symposium will promote collaborative research and provide a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences in the field of Islamic public policy and governance. By bringing together researchers, scholars, and practitioners from various geographical locations, the event will encourage networking and establishing connections that can lead to successful research projects and publications.
Participants will have the opportunity to present new research ideas, engage in discussions on current trends and developments, and explore potential collaborations.
This environment is designed to inspire future research endeavors and support the professional development of emerging scholars in the field.
Submission Guidelines
- Research abstracts should be limited to 250 words and demonstrate a clear connection to Islamic governance and Islamic public value.
- Abstracts should address a specific policy or administration topic, clearly stating the research question, methodology, preliminary findings, or expected outcomes, and explaining how the work will contribute to advancing knowledge or informing policy in this area.
- All documents must be submitted in PDF format. All application materials must be submitted in English.
- Accepted participants will be required to submit an extended abstract (maximum 1000 words) for pre-circulation among panel members by November 1, 2024.
- Presentations should be 8-10 minutes in length, and PowerPoint slides may be used.
