HBKU Law, part of the College of Law and Public Policy, hopes to serve as the GCC’s pre-eminent legal training program provider, attracting both Qatari students and students from across the MENA region to become the core of its student population.
This local and regional student base is supplemented by international students with a particular interest in the region or with an interest in the transnational comparative legal premise of the college’s programs. Students graduating from the program will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to work in the offices of general counsels, government ministries, large law firms, international organisations, the judiciary, and local and international businesses.
HBKU Law’s JD program was developed through a strategic partnership with Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and its goal is to prepare graduate leaders, not just lawyers. By delivering a customized legal curriculum and using innovative methods of instruction that focus on meeting the needs of the Gulf region's most important industries, HBKU Law is equipping Qatar with graduates who possess the critical and strategic thinking skills needed to achieve goals outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030; namely to address Qatar’s Grand Challenges and to provide a legacy that will yield global value and purpose.
The Law School has initiated the HBKU Legal Leadership Speakers Series and the HBKU Global Legal Education Council. Both of these initiatives reinforce the application of best practices and help ensure that the college’s programs are responsive to their constituents’ needs by serving the learning and thought leadership objectives of students, professionals, executives, and ministries.
