College of Islamic Studies Leads Lecture for Military Officers at Joaan Bin Jassim Joint Command and Staff College

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently delivered a Crisis Management lecture at Joaan Bin Jassim Joint Command and Staff College in Doha. Dr. Louay Safi, professor of the Master of Arts in Islam and Global Affairs program at CIS, led the talk during which he focused on the theoretical aspects of conflict management by examining three case studies. He explored best practices and effective strategies for conflict management – a topic that military officers undergoing training at the college have voiced their particular interest in. Dr. Safi underscored the need for relevant training and awareness ahead of a potential crisis, and developing and implementing full response plans to ensure crisis teams are able to respond adequately under pressure. The lecture served as a follow up to the Political Conflicts and Transformations in the Middle East seminar, which Dr. Safi participated in at the military college in December 2018. With five graduate programs, CIS is fully committed to addressing the contemporary needs of Muslim societies by shaping debate, inspiring dialogue, and instilling knowledge in their communities.
