4th Annual Women in Data Science (WiDS) Conference in Qatar

Women in Data Science (WiDS)

The Women in Data Science (WiDS) is a Stanford University initiative that aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and to support women in the field. WiDS started as a conference at Stanford in November 2015. Now, WiDS includes a global conference, with approximately 150+ regional events worldwide; a datathon, encouraging participants to refine their skills using a social impact challenge; and a podcast, featuring leaders in the field talking about their work, their journeys and lessons learned.

WiDS regional events are held between January and May annually in more than 150 cities in over 50 countries globally. The local edition, WiDS Qatar, was first started in 2017. The WiDS Qatar grants local women the opportunity to learn about the latest data science related research in multiple domains. The participants learn how leading-edge companies in Qatar are using data science for success, and get a chance to connect with potential mentors, collaborators and others in the field.  This year, the conference is being hosted by the College of Science and Engineering at Hamad Bin Khalifa University and co-organized by the WiDS organization committee and the Arab Women In Computing Society, which are  non-profit organizations operating globally and regionally to encourage women from all backgrounds to thrive in technology and computing. This year, WiDS is embracing a theme of “Data Scientists in the Making”.
