The Language Center at Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) will introduce German and Italian to its growing roster of language programs, starting Spring 2017. Registration for the Spring term at the Center is currently open for all programs, namely Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese, in addition to the newly added German and Italian, and will remain open for enrollment until January 10th.
The German language program is offered in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, and is structured around the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), with six levels of proficiency.Students can pursue their studies in accordance with the expectations for passing the “Goethe-Zertifikat” exam.
The Italian language program is currently offered as Beginner level, best suited for people who have not studied the language before. The class is conducted entirely in Italian in a fun and interactive setting.
The Language Center at TII is made available to the University community and the general public to help meet the foreign language needs.Dr. Milena Savova, Director of the Language Center, explained: “In an increasingly interconnected world, the ability to communicate effectively has become crucial in our diverse society and much sought-after in the job market. Learning another language or even a third, fourth and fifth, can open so many doors no matter what your field is. The addition of Italian and German enrich our offering which will hopefully continue to expand over the coming years.”
Acquiring language in its cultural context is an integral part of the Center’steaching philosophy, with a rich calendar of cultural events related to language learning available to its students. Students interested in the newly offered German and Italian programs will have the opportunity to experience a free sampler class and information session on January 9th, prior to the registration deadline, to give them an idea on the style and format of classes.
Courses are conveniently timed to accommodate both students and professionals interested in learning or developing their chosen language. Classes are offered twice a week with flexible timings to suit those who work during the mornings and those wish to keep their evenings free.
