Faculty at HBKU’s College of Health and Life Sciences Selected as Members of the Royal Society of Biology

Two faculty members from the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have been invited to become members of the Royal Society of Biology (RSB), United Kingdom. Dr. Kabir H. Biswas and Dr. Mohammad Farhan, assistant professors at CHLS, join a diverse network of over 18,000 individual biologists, including Nobel Prize winners, and over 90 organizational members as new members of this leading international professional body in the biological sciences.

Their selection serves as a recognition of their respective contributions to advancements in the biological sciences and HBKU’s ongoing effort to build links with the international scientific community. The RSB represents a single unified voice for biology, and its activities include advising and influencing science policy, advancing educational and professional development, as well as engaging public interest in the life sciences.

Dr. Biswas’ and Dr. Farhan’s expertise will benefit RSB’s initiatives to facilitate new discoveries in the biological sciences, which will further enhance CHLS’ positioning as a dedicated knowledge sharing hub in the region. At CHLS, Dr. Biswas leads an interdisciplinary group engaged in understanding the mechanisms of cellular signaling with the aim of providing avenues for precision diagnostics and medicine. In turn, Dr. Farhan’s lab uses neurogenetics and optogenetics approaches to delineate behavior-relevant circuits in Drosophila, which may have relevance to human brain diseases and provide an in-vivo platform for function validation and characterization of mutations identified through precision medicine platforms.
