“SUNPAVE” - one of the winning projects in the Education City (EC) Innovative Entrepreneurship Program – has won first place in the Sustainable Technologies and Future Energy category of the 2022 “Create the Future Design Contest”. The global competition, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers in the USA, attracted more than 600 participants. SUNPAVE also won second place in the Green Fintech Hackathon in Egypt.
The project was developed by Mohammad AlGammal, Cofounder and Chief Technology Officer. AlGammal is an instructor at Qatar Foundation’s partner, Texas A&M University at Qatar. SUNPAVE specializes in providing cutting-edge, patented novel solar energy solutions.
The Innovative Entrepreneurship program is one of several initiatives by the HBKU Innovation Center to support the Education City and Doha. Its efforts reinforce and foster sustainable innovation and an entrepreneurship-based ecosystem through multifaceted education, training, courses, mentorship, and targeted funds.
As one of the winning entrepreneurs in the EC Innovative Entrepreneurship Program’s first edition, AlGammal has been receiving capacity building training. In the next stage, the winners will prepare a project to apply to the Entrepreneurship Fund Program (EPF) offered by the HBKU Innovation Center. Up to five projects will be eligible for funding up to QAR 100,000 each. The funded projects will then be invited to a ‘demo day’, with the chance to present their ideas to investors and secure an investment to scale up their businesses.
HBKU’s EC Entrepreneurship Program aims to realize innovative business ideas and support projects which, like SUNPAVE, address priority areas within the Qatar National Development Strategy.
