Hosted and organized by HBKU, the tournament registration phases run from October 20 - November 26
The organizing committee of the GCC Sports Tournament for Universities and Higher Education Institutes in its ninth edition, headed by Dr. Maryam Bint Hamad Al-Mannai, Vice President for Student Affairs at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), announced the opening of registration for Qatari and GCC universities.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from February 4-10, 2023. More than 20 universities and educational institutes from various GCC countries are expected to take part.
The registration period will be divided into four phases – from October 20 to November 26. During the first phase, from October 20 to November 1, universities interested in participating can send an email to the organizing committee - or register via the link included in the announcement. Universities registering at this stage will be given priority.
Registration for each sport will close as soon as the maximum number of participants is reached. In football, volleyball, and padel, a minimum of eight universities and a maximum of 12 may participate. For table tennis, swimming, and athletics (track running), between eight and 16 universities can participate.
The second phase of registration will run from November 1-21. At this stage, the names of participants for each sport will be registered in addition to the accompanying delegations, limited to 50 persons per delegation.
In football, the number of players allowed per team will be a minimum of nine and a maximum of 18 players, in addition to a coach. In table tennis, between six and 12 are permitted, in addition to a coach. For swimming and athletics, there will be a minimum of four and a maximum of 16 participants, in addition to a coach. In padel, between three and five players are allowed, in addition to a coach. The administrative delegation should include up to two administrators, in addition to a delegation head.
During the third phase, from November 21-26, registration will be completed. The registration process concludes with the fourth phase, from November 26 to December 16. In this phase, the organizers will check the eligibility of players and ensure the fees are received for each participating delegation.
Mr. Faisal Bin Ahmed Al-Mohannadi, Senior Student Engagement Supervisor at HBKU and Manager of the Tournament, emphasized that “the organizing committee is working on finalizing all preparations and arrangements for hosting the tournament and managing all logistical affairs.” He pointed out that the door is open for all GCC universities to apply and register for participating in this exceptional edition, which comes straight after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM. Al-Mohannadi concluded that HBKU will strive to facilitate the success of the tournament by organizing it to the highest standards.
