CHSS Organizes Student Research Forum

Contestants presented master’s and doctoral research to compete for Best Presentation Awards and People’s Choice Award

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) organized its annual student research forum in early May to celebrate its students’ research achievements and highlight project outcomes.

Organized by Dr. A. Mehdi Riazi, Associate Dean for Research, CHSS, the forum featured 10 master’s and doctoral students’ abstracts focusing on various topics covering the College’s six postgraduate programs. Their papers highlighted some of the research work conducted within the CHSS’ MA in Translation Studies, MA in Audiovisual Translation, MA in Intercultural Communication, MA in Digital Humanities and Societies, MA in Women, Society, and Development, and PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences.

A jury panel composed of CHSS professors evaluated each entry, its outcomes, and the candidate’s research communication skills, awarding the three highest-scoring candidates with Best Presentation Awards. An audience consisting of 60 members of the College’s faculty, staff, and students was also given the opportunity to award one contestant for their work. The winners in both categories were:

Best Poster Presentation Award:

  • Under Arabo-Islamic Eyes: Indigeneity & Digital Language Practices in Morocco – Hatim Rachid
  • Improving Visitor Experience in the National Museum of Qatar through Creative Access – Malak Latrous
  • Exploring the Interplay of Gendered Language, Pronoun Usage, and Thematic Patterns in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet: A Comparative Analysis – Eden Wagari

People’s Choice Award

  • Exploring the Interplay of Gendered Language, Pronoun Usage, and Thematic Patterns in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet: A Comparative Analysis – Eden Wagari

"We were impressed by the quality of the papers submitted to the forum. The papers covered a wide range of topics and demonstrated the diversity and richness of research being conducted by CHSS students. The forum provided an opportunity for the presenters to share their research with a large audience and get feedback from them. We hope the forum will help the presenters to prepare their research for publication based on the feedback they received," said Dr. A. Mehdi Riazi, Associate Dean for Research and Chair of the CHSS Student Research Forum 2023.
