The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) was founded as a hub for contemporary Islamic studies, fostering intellectual discourse on Islam within a global framework. Offering ten graduate and postgraduate programs, CIS prepares students for careers in academia and research, as well as cultural, business, and finance sectors through specialized tracks. It also hosts renowned research centers and clusters, facilitating interdisciplinary dialogue and scholarship. CIS integrates academic Islamic principles with modern social sciences, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and scholarship.

Position

We are currently accepting applications for the position of Full Professor in Islamic Studies within the College of Islamic Studies for the 2023-2024 academic year. The College is particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate the ability to combine global perspectives with national and regional concerns.

Job Role Description

The candidate for this position will:

  • Have a specific focus on theoretical and practical aspects of Islamic theology, as they will teach in the CIS MA in theoretical and practical aspects of Islamic theology and law in the Islamic studies program.
  • Contribute to the college’s emerging research profile.
  • Engage with stakeholders in Qatar and the region to address issues in Islamic Law within the field of contemporary Islamic studies.
  • Be expected to assume administrative positions and manage research projects at the College level.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • PhD or terminal degree from an accredited university that emphasizes applied modalities in the fields of Islamic law, Islamic legal theory, and the higher objectives of Sharia, with specific relevance to the context of contemporary societies.
  • 10 – 12 years plus of relevant full-time university teaching experience in research, higher education, or closely related areas in industry (additional experience may be required to show equivalency), with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity.
  • Evidence of proficiency and success in teaching, student supervision, and curriculum and program development.
  • Research and scholarly achievements deemed competent and adequate for the relevant rank in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university.
  • Significant national, regional, and international reputation in scholarly endeavors (funded research grants, publications, etc.) in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university.
  • Ability to work with and lead diverse groups, cultures, and communities.
  • Evidence of significant national, regional, and international networks and collaborations in both teaching and research activities.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Arabic and English is essential and the primary language of instruction is English.
