Hamad Bin Khalifa University is hosting an open lecture on Wednesday, February 10th, from 7pm-9pm at the university’s Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies building that will look at the challenging issues of Fiqh in modern times. HBKU’s Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), will hold an open lecture titled: "The crises of Fiqh in modern times: the contemporary interpretation and the future of the Islamic Fiqh schools”. The lecture is part of a long series of events planned for the current academic year.
The lecture will be presented by Dr. Moataz Al-Khatib, a professor of Religious Pluralism at HBKU.
The lecture will discuss the aspects of the crises of Islamic Fiqh, the contexts of the call for breaking the doctrinal tradition, the paths of interpretation (Ijtihad) and fatwa in contemporary Islam, and the future of the known Islamic Fiqh schools representing Sunni Islam. During the lecture Dr. Al-Khatib will address the contemporary challenges facing doctrinal Fiqh.
This initiative comes as part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s efforts to provide a contemporary research vision in the field of Islamic studies, and as part of CILE’s pursuit for renewal in Islamic thinking, brought forward by combining text and context, and highlighting the essential role of ethics in the desired reform
The lecture will be in Arabic, while simultaneous translation into English will be provided.
