Colleges and research institutes of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) are showcasing their various health-related research initiatives at the World Innovation Summit for Health 2018 conference, currently underway at the Qatar National Convention Centre. With five entities being actively involved in this year’s summit, HBKU is witnessing its strongest presence at WISH to date.

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) is offering visitors to the HBKU arena detailed information about its newly launched Master of Data Analytics in Health Management program. In addition, CSE is showcasing its various health-related research projects, including Assistive Technology for Detecting and Monitoring Attention in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder; Remote Healthcare Monitoring for Diabetic Patients in Qatar; In-vivo Colon Polyps Screening Device with Thermotherapy Capability; and Biomedical applications of additive manufacturing.

Two students enrolled in the Master of Science in Genomics and Precision Medicine program at the College of Health and Life and Sciences are exhibiting their healthcare innovations as WISH Young Innovators. 

Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) is heavily involved this year with a Speaker Session that is led by Dr. Omar El-Agnaf, acting executive director, who will be discussing the topic of Developing Novel Diagnostic and Therapeutic Tools of Parkinson’s Disease. A partner meet-up led by QBRI’s Dr. Mohammed Emara in his capacity as a scientist at the Neurological Disorders Center was also held today. Separately, QBRI also arranged a Meet the Author session with Dr. Fouad Alshaban, senior scientist at the Neurological Disorders Research Center, who discussed the institute’s Prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Qatar study. Among other initiatives, QBRI held an hour-long closed roundtable to discuss outcomes from its latest study on the prevalence of autism in Qatar. Finally, Nour Majbour, a research associate at QBRI, who is a contestant in the current season of Stars of Science, will be one of the speakers participating in a series of talks on the WISH Spotlight stage.

Meanwhile, dedicated staff members at The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics’ (CILE), part of the College of Islamic Studies, information booth are informing visitors about the research on Islamic Ethics and Palliative Care, which is being conducted by Dr. Mohamed Ghaly, professor of Islam and Biomedical Ethics at CILE. Dr. Ghaly is also chairing a panel discussion entitled: Research Forum on Islamic Ethics and Palliative Care at the conference.
