HBKU’s College of Islamic Studies Lecture Explores Advancement of Circular Economies

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Islamic Studies (CIS) recently held a public lecture entitled Circular Economy: Aspirations, Realities and Opportunities to discuss the multidimensional approach of Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV2030) to support the transformation from linear to circular economies. Dr. Tariqullah Khan, professor and coordinator of the PhD program in Islamic Finance and Economy offered at CIS, highlighted the new perspective on resource management and opportunities for entrepreneurship within QNV2030. In addition, he explained how a circular and ecological alternative of a zero-waste economy is emerging in response to the environmental and social imbalances caused by the current waste-oriented linear economic model. He also highlighted how the emergence of this new paradigm resonates with the ideals of Islamic economics and finance. This lecture is part of CIS’s mandate to advance scholarly discourse on contemporary issues and challenges affecting Muslims and their communities worldwide.
