Mr. Cesar Jung-Harada

Mr. Cesar Harada, an Associate Professor in Singapore Institute of Technology, is a French-Japanese inventor, environmentalist and entrepreneur living in Hong Kong.

He is the director of MakerBay, a part of Hong Kong MakerSpace for Social & Environmental Impact, the inventor of Protei, a revolutionary shape-shifting sailing robot and the Director of Scoutbots.

He is interested in topics on open hardware for the environment and citizen science, with a strong focus on ocean communities and technologies. 

He is originally a graduate of the Design Interactions Department at the Royal College of Arts in London. Along with his experience as a former teacher of the Master of Design and Environment at Goldsmiths University in London, he previously worked as a project manager at MIT (USA). His profile holds many other achievements, including being the construction manager of the IHub in Nairobi and leading the Open-H2O (former Open-Sailing) to win the ARS Electronica Golden Nica [NEXT IDEA] in Austria and the VIDA awards Fundacion Telefonica in Spain. He was further trained in design thinking by George Kembel (Stanford School) and rabid prototyping by Tom Chi (former Google X).

Mr. Harada is also identified as a TED Senior Fellow and Speaker, a figure of progress nominee by GOOD and IBM, a COP21 opening speaker about ocean technologies, and an APEC Maker Awardee. His company, Scoutbots, was a StartmeUp HK Grand Award winner, and it was listed as China's 10th most innovative company by Fast Company (2015).
