Fatema Al-Faraj holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Psychology and Biology for Health Sciences from the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada as well as a Graduate Certificate in Brain Disorders Management from Mohawk College in Ontario, Canada. She is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Applied Neuroscience degree from King's College London, United Kingdom. 

During her undergraduate studies, Al-Faraj assisted at the Health Adaptation Research on Trauma (HART) Lab where the effects of severe and chronic stress on mental and physical health across the lifespan were investigated. She also has experience in traumatic brain injuries through working at the Hamilton Brain Injury Association during her graduate placement. 

Al-Faraj joined HBKU’s Qatar Biomedical Research Institute’s ASD Epidemiology Research team in September 2021 as a research assistant after volunteering at Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities in Qatar.
