This symposium aims to investigate pressing issues in the humanities and social sciences within the Arab world, especially regarding contemporary challenges and future possibilities.

The event will feature five sessions focused on the theme of the symposium:

  • Knowledge at a Crossroads: Navigating Methodological Challenges in Arab Scholarship – A discussion of the methodological issues that scholars face in producing relevant and rigorous knowledge.
  • Pedagogy for the Arab Future: Building Relevant Humanities and Social Sciences Curricula – This panel will explore innovative pedagogical approaches to developing curricula that resonate with the needs and aspirations of Arab societies.
  • AI and the Digital Frontier: Shaping the Future of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Arab World – A session on the impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on the evolution of humanities and social sciences.
  • Marginalized Social Sciences: The Case of Oriental Studies – An examination of the historical and contemporary dynamics of Oriental Studies and its implications for social sciences in the Arab context.
  • What Defines a College of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Arab Context? An exploration of the unique characteristics and challenges faced by institutions dedicated to humanities and social sciences within the Arab world.

The event will be held in Arabic and English with live interpretation for both languages.
