Qatar Biomedical Research Institute

The Summer Research Program (SRP) at Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) offers intensive training opportunities in specific fields of biomedical research to exceptional undergraduate students over the summer.  

Eligibility

To be considered for the program, the applicant must: 

  • Hold a Qatari residence permit
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate program in biological/medical related science 
  • Have a minimum graduate point average (GPA) of 3.0

Application Process 

Applicants must fill in the online form and submit the following documents:

  • An updated resume
  • Official copy of university academic transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty/instructors, familiar with the student, in a position to assess the student’s capabilities and potential for a career in science
  • A selection of two projects from the SRP projects listed below

 

Neurological Disorder Research Center

  1. Characterization of nanobodies against various proteins implicated in neurodegenerative diseases
  2. Development and optimization of biomarker assays for synucleinopathies
  3. ARGUS-MDS-ASD: Digital phenotyping for social communication behaviors
  4. Grown-up individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Qatar
  5. Exosome biomarkers for autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  6. Identification, Prediction, and Data Analysis of Non-Coding RNAs in Neurodevelopmental Disorders

Diabetes Research Center

  1. Mechanisms of transcription factors involved in pluripotency and β cell development
  2. Investigation of Tirzepatide treatment in Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in an in vitro cell model
  3. Role of MAFA and Mitochondria in the maturation and functionality of human pluripotent stem cell-derived pancreatic beta-cells

The Translational Cancer And Immunity Center Projects

  1. Identification of novel prognostic and therapeutic targets for breast cancer

 

Extended deadline for receiving applications is April 6, 2023.

The top candidates are interviewed by members of the selection committee before making final admission decisions.
