The Middle East was a crucial theater of the Great War, turning a European conflict into a true world war. Yet it was WWI that shaped the modern Middle East. With the Allied victory in 1918, the region emerged from four centuries of Ottoman rule into the modern states of the Middle East. The post-war boundaries have proven surprisingly enduring – as have the conflicts engendered by the post-war partition. All attendees are invited for dinner after the public lecture.

The lecture will be delivered in English; interpretation to Arabic will be available.
