This research cluster’s focus is to examine language as a means for mediation (translation, language learning, and teaching) to promote inclusion (empower people to become active agents of change in society). As a part of their interdisciplinary approach, the members of this cluster have developed three primary research themes on which to focus:
Investigate the relationship between language and thought and how to enhance this relationship using research outcomes.
Contribute to the current body of knowledge on the relationship between language and mind by drawing on cross-linguistic and cross-cultural studies; language for specific purposes (LSP); genre analysis; register analysis; and language education. These would have applications in the development of terminology banks; as well as the contribution to curriculum development, teaching, evaluation, and annotation.
Investigate how progressive education approaches can enhance language learning and teaching.
Contribute to the body of knowledge of inclusive user-sensitive approaches to language learning and teaching using research outcomes. This focus can have practical applications in language (teacher) education and training using new technologies and new approaches to language learning and teaching.
