Dr. Georges Nemer, Interim Dean and Professor, Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS), was recently elected a member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society.
Dr. Nemer received membership on the basis of his contributions to the fields of genomics and translational biomedicine, particularly through a dedication to research excellence and support of both his students and peers in these disciplines.
Founded in 1886 to honor excellence in scientific investigation and encourage a sense of companionship and cooperation among researchers in all fields of science and engineering, Sigma Xi is one of the oldest and largest scientific organizations in the world. Its membership comprises scientists and engineers from across the spectrum of the scientific and technological disciplines, with the Honor Society’s chapters based at colleges and universities, government laboratories, and industry research centers around the world.
Dr. Nemer’s membership gives him access to Sigma Xi’s network of members, professional development training resources, and leadership opportunities. He will also be able to participate in initiatives to promote public understanding of the scientific fields, responsible conduct of research and scientific integrity, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematical education.
“Induction into Sigma Xi is a great honor, one that could not be made possible without the support of my colleagues and students at CHLS. I am eager to collaborate with experts from this distinguished institution to pursue high-impact research needed in Qatar and beyond while working to educate coming generations of professionals in the fields of biomedical sciences, genomics, precision medicine, exercise science, and more,” said Dr. Nemer.
