Maker Majlis Hosts Team Building for Youth Advocates

Maker Majlis, a collaborative platform under the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently hosted a workshop for Generation Amazing youth advocates titled “Sports for Humanity, Development and Peace: Design and Ideation Training”. Dr. Evren Tok, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of Innovation and Community Engagement at CIS, presented the training alongside Bayan Khaled, Research Fellow, and Alina Zaman, Research Assistant. Using the Lego Serious Play method, the workshop was split into multiple activities and included an introduction to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by Dr. Duygu Sever Mehmetoglu, postdoctoral researcher at CIS. The session familiarized the youth advocates with the different components of ideation and design through Lego Serious Play, and led them through a series of questions related to sport and football in relation to peace, development, and humanitarianism. Their individual three-dimensional models served as the basis for group discussion, knowledge sharing, problem solving, and decision-making, encouraging participants to identify ideas for using sport to achieve the SDGs. The session concluded with a football team building activity. The Generation Amazing youth advocates are engaged in a year-long journey of capacity building preparing them for a role as advocates of change. The workshop was in keeping with the overall aims of Maker Majlis to encourage youth to engage in activities related to the SDGs.
