CPP Dean Speaks at Governance and Public Policy Think Tank

Dr. Leslie A. Pal, Founding Dean of the College of Public Policy (CPP), delivered an online presentation to the Governance and Public Policy Think Tank (GPTT) at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. His topic was “Policy Advisory Networks: Refreshing the Second Wave”. With around 40 faculty and graduate students in attendance, Dr. Pal shared some research findings from his work on global public policy making, and how policy advice gets channeled from global to domestic policy arenas and back. His argument was that global policy institutions and actors have much greater influence in policy advice at the domestic level than is often given credit, and that current conceptualizations are too static. Referring to his previous work on the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and current research on the Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Pal made the case for a more organic and fluid model of global/domestic policy making. His talk also paved the way to further collaboration between the College of Public Policy and the GPTT in the future.
