Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Public Policy (CPP), College of Islamic Studies (CIS), and College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) jointly hosted Dr. Jane Goodall, world-renowned primatologist, anthropologist, and environmental activist, for a conversation on how people can instigate positive change to benefit humanity, the biosphere, and the environment.

During the talk, Dr. Goodall shared her perspectives on current threats facing the planet, including climate change, deforestation, and the loss of biodiversity, and highlighted the urgent need for change. She also discussed ways in which individuals, organizations, and governments can work together to protect our planet and create a sustainable future for all.

Dr. Goodall also drew from her decades of experience in the field of conservation, and emphasized the importance of community-based solutions and the power of individual action to make a difference.

“It was a privilege to co-host Dr. Goodall for an inspiring discussion on the necessity of collaboration, and importance of constructive hope for protecting our natural environment. Her message resonated strongly with the mission of all three of our colleges to educate future leaders to engage and innovate with their communities. Dr. Goodall gave us a living example of ethical practice informed by research and science, all hallmarks of HBKU’s vision. We were delighted to invite our community to hear insights from one of the foremost minds in conservation,” said Dr. Leslie A. Pal, Founding Dean, HBKU’s CPP.

Dr. Goodall also spoke at the inaugural Earthna Summit, which took place from March 8-9, 2023. Organized by the Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future, a member of Qatar Foundation, the two-day summit featured Dr. Goodall leading a discussion on the theme of biodiversity, ecosystem, and values.

HBKU’s CPP aims to become one of the leading public policy schools in the region and the world and a center for teaching and researching responses to policy questions of local and global relevance. The College actively leverages local and transnational synergies and collaborations with distinguished international partners in the government, non-government, corporate, and organizational sectors, transcending borders to facilitate expertise and build capacity in Qatar and beyond.
