College of Islamic Studies Faculty Leads Course at Thailand University
Faculty from the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) recently delivered a short course to students at Prince Songkla University (PSU) in the Kingdom of Thailand. Dr. Mohamed El Gammal, associate professor at CIS, and Dr. Fethi Ahmed, a research coordinator at the CIS’ Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), led a course on ‘Contemporary Applications of Maqasid al-Sharia,’ at the Pattani campus of the College of Islamic Studies at PSU, from June 17 to 21. During the course, Dr. El Gammal delved into the theories, concepts, and methodologies of Maqasid al-Sharia and its relevance in the contemporary world. Dr. Ahmed explained to students the applications of Maqasid for the modern family to deal with the challenges posed by globalization and the digital age. The course received strong interest from participating students and university officials. Dr. Muhammadroflee Waehama, dean of the College of Islamic Studies at PSU, and Dr. Asman Taeali, deputy dean for academic services and international affairs at PSU, expressed their interest in pursuing further collaborations with CIS to engage in knowledge exchange, research and teaching opportunities. CIS regularly collaborates with local and international partners to promote a deeper understanding of Islam.
