HBKU invites professionals to enroll in performance management executive training

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) Executive Education Center (EEC) is invitingpublic sector professionals to an intensive two-day executive training on “Performance Management in the Public Sector: Global Experiences, Local Applications”on December 13th and 14th. The training is led by Dr. Leslie A. Pal, Chancellor’s Professor ofPublic Policy and Administration at Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada) and focuses on enhancing productivity in the public sector. Participants will be equipped with the latest tools and methodologies in performance management and learn to apply industry best practices for personal and professional success.
 

The first day of the training will cover the basic elements of performance and how it fits into public management systems, while the second day will cover comparative case studies and introduce the practice of performance agreements. Participants will learn to set benchmarks, identify stakeholders of performance in public sector organizations, and design, develop, and communicate a performance framework that produces results. The training will also offer an overview of key issues and challenges commonly faced by governments, along with practical tools that can be usedto improve efficiency across departments.
 

The training instructor, Dr. Pal, brings over 30 years of research, teaching, and public sector management experienceto the executive training program. In addition to his work with various Canadian government agencies and NGOs, he has published 28 books and over 60 articles in the field of performance management and led training sessions on the subject across the world.
 

Dr. Pal noted: “Performance measurement, reporting, and management has become a central concern for governments around the world. Different countries use different methods and institutions to suit their specific conditions, but there is consensus on key techniques and practices. Our workshop will draw on this rich repository of theory and practice through a combination of presentations, case studies, exercises and group work.”
 

The performance management training is the firstshort-course offered by HBKU’s Executive Education Center. The EEC was designed to inspire a culture of life-long learning and aims to help build human capacity in strategic industries in Qatar.  The center will offer a number of modular training programs in technical and administrative fields for working professionals looking to expand their knowledge and develop new skills. Coursesprovide professional certification and seek to havepractical relevance for participants.
