HBKU makes Nature Index’s List of Top Research Rising Star Institutions

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, has been named as one of Nature Index’s 2016 Top 25 Research Rising Stars in the Middle East and West Asia. The ranking recognizes HBKU’s significant growth and development in recent years in the field of scientific research between its colleges and research institutes. Debuting at number 15, HBKU is the first institution from Qatar to be included in this prestigious pan-regional list.

Nature Index, a database of author affiliation, collected from research articles published in 68 high-quality science journals, releases ranking tables annually to distinguish top performing academic institutions, corporate institutions, and countries around the world. The lists recognize influential performers in science, using an index that tracks the high-quality research output of more than 8,000 global institutions. Universities and institutes on the 2016 Rising Stars list are noted for growing their research activities significantly in recent years.

Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah, President of HBKU, commented on the recognition: “The interdisciplinary research conducted at HBKU strives to target some of the most pressing challenges faced by the world today, while supporting Qatar’s development, contributing to global scholarship, and moving key industries forward.
