Hamad Bin Khalifa University to Host Launch Event Showcasing New Academic Programs
Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is to host a launch event for its new graduate programs on Saturday, May 18, at Multaqa (Education City Student Center). The multidisciplinary institution has expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of eight new academic programs across six of its colleges, and classes will commence as of September 2019.
The special event will showcase the new graduate programs and enable prospective students and members of the community to connect with the deans, faculty, and admissions team to explore HBKU’s academic and research opportunities.
Dr. Yousef Haik, associate provost for academic affairs at HBKU, said: “HBKU continually looks to expand its academic offerings in accordance with local demand and current global trends and developments, to ensure the next generation has the skills and know-how to address current and future challenges, both in Qatar and further afield.”
“Our new graduate programs span several fields and serve to mark signature areas of offerings that complement our existing research programs, address local market needs, nurture top-tier students, and forward HBKU’s global outlook as a research-intensive university. We invite members of the community looking to pursue their graduate studies to attend our launch event to learn more about the enriching programs HBKU has proudly introduced,” he continued.
The newly introduced programs include a Master of Arts in Applied Islamic Ethics from the College of Islamic Studies; PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Master of Information Systems in Health Management and Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (a joint degree with the University of South Carolina) from the College of Science and Engineering; Master of Laws in International Law and Foreign Affairs and Master of Laws in International Economic and Business Law from the College of Law; Master of Science in Exercise Science from the College of Health and Life Sciences (a joint degree with the University of South Carolina); and a Master of Public Policy offered by the College of Public Policy – HBKU’s newly inaugurated college.
HBKU’s new degree programs are tailored to build specialized capacity to address the most in-demand current and future skills of local and international employment markets. The expansion of its degree offering reflects a logical continuation of the university’s consistent growth and leadership as an academic institution and world-class architect of multidisciplinary education and research in Qatar.
Last year, HBKU introduced six new degree programs across two colleges – the College of Islamic Studies and the College of Science and Engineering. With its three newest degrees, CIS’s offerings allow students to pursue higher education in a wide range of subjects that hold relevance for Muslim communities around the globe. Similarly, CSE’s programs aimed to serve cornerstones to developing needed skillsets within the local pool of talent in Qatar.
Prospective students and those interested in learning more about HBKU’s academic offerings are encouraged to attend. The launch event will start at 9:30pm, and attendees can register via www.hbku.edu.qa.
