Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently participated in the Doha Forum as a content partner, during which HBKU Press unveiled The Gulf Crisis: The View from Qatar, a book featuring 16 Education City-based scholars and experts who offer insider accounts of how the blockade has influenced Qatar’s economy, society and diplomatic relations.

The book was launched during a panel discussion on the last day of the forum on December 16. Dr. Rory Miller, professor of government at Georgetown University in Qatar, moderated the discussion with four of the book’s contributors: Dr. Gerd Nonneman, professor of international relations & Gulf studies, Georgetown University in Qatar; Dr. Tareq Al-Ansari, assistant professor, College of Science and Engineering, HBKU; Dr. Jocelyn Sage Mitchell, assistant professor in residence, Northwestern University in Qatar; and Dr. Mohamed Evren Tok, assistant professor and assistant dean for innovation and community advancement at the College of Islamic Studies, HBKU.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmed Elmagarmid, executive director at the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), delivered a presentation on the topic Fact or Falsehood? The Consequences of Misinformation, where he highlighted how new technologies and social media enable the viral spread of questionable facts.
