HBKU’s Translation and Interpreting Institute invites prospective students to Admissions Open House

The Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is holding an Admissions Open House event on Wednesday, November 18th from 4:30pm-6:30pm at the LAS Building in Education City. The event offers an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about HBKU’s Master of Arts in Translation Studies and Master of Arts in Audiovisual Translation by speaking directly with TII faculty.

There will be the opportunity for attendees to take part in mini translation workshops to explore various forms of translation through a number of hands-on exercises. Members of TII’s admissions team will also be on hand to answer questions regarding the applications process for joining TII’s programs.

Established with the mission of building translation capacity in Qatar and the region, TII’s programs combine academic rigor with the development of vocational skills demanded by the industry and institutional employers. Accredited by the University of Geneva, the Master in Translation Studies (MATS) is a two-year program designed to train highly skilled translators in the areas of business and commerce, science and technology, literary translation, translation of media texts, as well as translation for international organizations.

The Master in Audiovisual Translation (MAAT) is also a two-year program, designed to train specialists in the mediation of audiovisual texts, both for foreign-language viewers and sensory impaired audiences. Both programs include a work placement as well, seeking to aid students in meeting their professional aspirations.

Director of the Postgraduate and Research Department, Dr. Ovidi Cortes, noted: “I encourage those who have an interest in our programs to come out to the Admissions Open House and learn more about what TII offers. Not only will prospective students be able to meet faculty and staff, they will also be able to get a clearer understanding of the nature of the translation field and what it entails to be a student in one of our programs.”

Those interested in attending TII’s Admissions Open House are encouraged to RSVP ahead of the event by emailing Reine Atrach at ratrach@qf.org.qa.
