New massive open online program deepens university’s participation with edX platform

Education City’s Minaretein Building was the location for the January 15 launch of HBKUx’s professional certificate program on ‘Education for Sustainable Development and Peace.’
Building on the success of HBKUx’s ‘Solar Energy in Hot Desert Climates’ and ‘Sustainability and Major Sport Events,’ the two-course program facilitates a comprehensive discourse on the intersection between education, peace, and sustainable development. In doing so, the course prepares leaders and professionals with an interest in related fields to be change agents capable of building peaceful and sustainable societies through education, policy, and community initiatives. Participants will engage with the complex challenges and questions triggered by the global pursuit of peace and sustainable development, such as the integration of youth engagement into peace and sustainability education.
Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is the first academic institution in the Middle East to offer innovative massive open online courses (MOOCs) with edX, a non-profit online learning platform founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Through this platform, HBKU aims to make quality academic research programs and courses accessible to millions of learners globally. The agreement with edX underscores HBKU’s commitment to pursuing local and international collaborations to promote a truly global educational experience and breaks down academic silos.
