Islam in a Global World

We, students in Qatar, believe that:

  • Migration and Refugees

  1. We have the obligation to protect the vulnerable regardless of nationality, race, religion, gender, or any other qualifier: “Verily, We have dignified the children of Adam.” [Qur’an 17:70]. Freedom of movement should be secured as an essential right for each and every human being.
  2. As custodians of God on this planet, we are responsible for abiding by certain values, most notably, 1) human dignity, 2) justice, 3) compassion and 4) cooperation.
  3. States and societies should honor the values of human dignity and justice to eradicate the negative root causes of migration and the making of refugees.
  4. In order to support the integration of refugees and migrants into society with full rights, we must instill the value of compassion and cooperation in global society through education.
  • Islam and Humanityimage 1

  1. Only when human beings are self-sufficient can they be truly dignified and be able to fulfill their role as custodians of God on this planet. “And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient”. [Qur’an 93:8]
  2. Humanitarian aid is a manifestation of mercy between human beings and a restorative tool of human dignity.
  3. Assisting humanity should happen in a manner that dignifies all parties involved.
  4. We must build a humanitarian society that works collectively to co-produce all material and non-material means to holistically address the needs of the vulnerable.
  • Islam and Civilizationsimage 2

  1. Islam transcends geographic boundaries and cultures. “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted” [Qur’an 49:13].
  2. All humans share common values, which can be approached and actualized by respecting plurality and diversity.
  3. Islam is a source of inspiration for advancing civilization as evidenced by the great achievements and contributions of Muslims throughout history.
  4. Islam promotes civilizational dialogue to seek common ground while addressing the global challenges we all face.
  • Terrorism

  1. Islam upholds the sanctity of human life without any form of discrimination or preference of some against others. Allah says: ‘And whoever saves a life, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.’ [Qur’an 5:32]
  2. It is the responsibility of every Muslim to work within their society to help justice prevail and preserve the dignity of all human beings.
  3. Terrorism is a complex problem that needs to be addressed in a multifaceted way and sustaining socio-economic justice and promoting education are vital in this regard.
  4. Terrorism has no religion, and threatens all members of the human community. Let us all unite in the name of justice, and ensure that we can co-exist and co-produce regardless of our differences.
