Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah, President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently met with Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office, at the UN Headquarters in New York, to discuss the imperative role of education in countering extremism and nurturing tolerance, empathy, and understanding. Dr. Hasnah and Mr. Voronkov discussed the potential of collaborations between higher education institutes and international bodies to create sustainable solutions to address challenges facing displaced people in the wake of growing conflict. During the visit, Dr. Hasnah also highlighted the role of Qatar Foundation’s Education City in advancing education excellence in Qatar and the region; and its aim to to reinforce tolerance and promote diversity through numerous community outreach initiatives.
