HBKU Enrollment Campaign 2024-25: College of Law
HBKU’s programs consistently encourage the application of academic knowledge in practical settings. These include the College of Law’s moot proceedings, which have enabled Juris Doctor student Shireen Ahmed to apply key legal concepts to real world scenarios.
What inspired you to pursue postgraduate studies with HBKU?
I have regularly been inspired over the course of my professional journey to learn more about how the law interacts with business and society. With its commitment to the comparative study of private and public law in Qatar and around the world, it soon became apparent that HBKU was the ideal place to make this happen. . The College of Law’s focus on understanding the legal systems of Qatar and other countries was particularly appealing, given the global nature of today’s legal landscape. As the only university in the Middle East and North Africa region offering the Juris Doctor program, HBKU is uniquely placed to prepare students for both local and international job markets, another important factor that solidified my decision to pursue postgraduate studies with the university.
How did HBKU help you to adjust and settle into life at Education City?
HBKU encourages a student experience beyond the classroom, as well as active engagement with everything Education city has to offer. The university regularly hosts public lectures and panel sessions on a wealth of topics. And then there’s physical activities, ranging from the Education City Golf Club to the more serene environment of Oxygen Park.
What activities are you involved in outside of your studies?
Beyond my coursework, I participate in moot arbitration proceedings, which has been invaluable for translating academic knowledge into practical settings. Through drafting memorandums and presenting oral arguments, I have not only expanded my understanding of arbitration but have also refined my ability to apply legal concepts in real-world scenarios. The emphasis on practical application and experiential learning opportunities at HBKU has undoubtedly enriched my academic journey.
