HBKU’s QEERI Opens ‘Call for Papers’ Ahead of International Conference
Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has announced the ‘Call for Papers’ for its upcoming International Conference on Sustainable Energy-Water-Environment Nexus in Desert Climates 2019 (IC-SEWEN’19), to be held at Qatar National Convention Centre from 3 to 5 December.
More than 400 researchers, scientists, engineers and stakeholders will come together to promote a better understanding of the links between energy, water and environment, particularly in desert climates, and develop key priority areas for human development and environmental sustainability. IC-SEWEN’19 – supported by Qatar National Research Fund – will also feature an industrial exhibition where national and international companies will showcase their products and technologies in the field.
Commenting ahead of the event, Dr. Marc Vermeersch, executive director, QEERI, said “The IC-SEWEN’19 will bring together the best minds across all relevant sectors to discuss topics of increasing importance in the wake of climate change and the threats it poses to the region. Through the gathering, we hope to collectively formulate sustainable solutions that are able to mitigate the effects of rapidly changing environmental occurrences.”
QEERI has partnered with Springer Nature for the conference with the selected proceedings to be peer-reviewed and published in a special volume of the Springer Nature Applied Science (SNAS) journal dedicated to arid climates.
Dr. Veronica Bermudez, conference chair and senior research director of the Energy Center at QEERI, said the conference will serve as a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue among scientists, researchers, industry partners and policymakers: “QEERI is committed to supporting Qatar in addressing the grand challenges related to energy, water and environment, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“Through this conference, we aim to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and provide updates on our technology development status, and learn from leading experts around the globe. The challenges that Qatar and other hot arid regions face are unique, and we hope to explore potential solutions for relevant issues in the implementation of research in the area of energy, water and environment.”
QEERI welcomes papers on various topics relating to energy, water and environment. The deadline to receive all submissions is August 15. Admissions can be submitted at: www.hbku.edu.qa/en/qeeri-call-papers
