HBKU College of Science and Engineering Faculty Contributes to Disability and Development Conference

A faculty member from the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is contributing to proceedings at the ongoing Doha International Conference on Disability and Development.

Organized under the guidance and patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the two-day event looks at efforts to harness the sustainable development agenda to advance the human rights of persons with disabilities. Participants will focus on streamlining the nexus between the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD), based on the co-production of social policy between civil societies and governments. It is anticipated that bridging this gap will facilitate meaningful structural change that leads to the successful achievement of inclusive equality.

HBKU’s contribution to conference proceedings is provided by Dr. Dena Al Thani, who joins a group of esteemed international panelists to analyze how the data revolution makes those who are often invisible, visible. The Assistant Professor at the College of Science and Engineering is to base her contribution around her research on attention assessment for children with autism spectrum disorder.

Speaking during the conference Dr. Dena Al Thani, Assistant Professor, CSE, said: “I’m delighted to be participating at this important international conference. The global push for sustainable development should leave no one behind, including people with disabilities. My research on attention assessment for children with autism spectrum disorder  is guided by this principle, as are all of the panel discussions and activities taking place at this event.”

“It’s also an honor to represent the CSE at the Doha International Conference on Disability and Development. Our presence reflects our commitment to making a significant positive impact in the fields of science, engineering and technology at home and abroad.”
