Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute Showcases Research and Applied Solutions at AgriteQ and EnviroteQ 2021
Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), showcased its research and pilot projects during the eighth Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ) and second Qatar International Environmental Exhibition (EnviroteQ), held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) from March 23-27. QEERI’s Water Center showcased the consultancy and evaluation services that the institute provides for irrigation, groundwater treatment, and liquid waste disposal treatment for agricultural initiatives and farms. QEERI demonstrated several of the systems it has developed, including polishing filtration systems for point-of-use water treatment (suitable for household, medical, or dental use) that are also suitable for off-grid rural water treatment for developing countries, and a system for the treatment of air conditioning condensate water which can be used for irrigation or other beneficial uses, potentially conserving millions of liters of water per year. The team also presented a patented water desalination system which can potentially lower the cost of municipal drinking water production from seawater on a large scale by 30%. QEERI’s Environment and Sustainability Center showcased the capabilities of its Water Quality Labs, which can perform high quality water analysis for agriculture, industry, and animal husbandry. They were able to demonstrate their continuous monitoring of the indoor air quality at the DECC and highlighted the services provided by QEERI in air quality forecasting. QEERI’s team also spoke about the various projects, facilities, and capabilities that the institute possesses for solar forecasting and corrosion research.
