Facilities and Laboratories

Core Labs

QEERI’s Core Labs are a national asset, which enables fundamental and applied cutting-edge research in Qatar. It provides a unique opportunity to the scientific and engineering/technical community in Qatar, the region and around the world, to do research, development and innovation from lab-to-prototype-to-product. With highly skilled staff and distinctive capabilities, the Core Labs at QEERI provide a centralized, world-class facility housing state-of-the-art comprehensive and multidisciplinary imaging, characterization and analysis equipment under one roof, with capabilities such as microscopy (electron, probe, light, confocal, fluorescence) and microanalysis, surface science, x-rays, thermal, NMR, molecular spectroscopy and thin film deposition and characterization).

Micro and Nanofabrication Facilities

The future micro and nanofabrication facilities at QEERI will enable fabrication and process-related characterizations of nanometer and micrometer scale devices. The planned QEERI cleanroom will be an institute-wide core facility supporting inter-disciplinary research. It will house tools for device development and integration, as well as additive semiconductor fabrication processes like physical and chemical vapor deposition and thermal oxidation. Optical and laser lithography tools will enable submicron resolution patterning while wet benches and dry etch tools will provide a wide range of subtractive capabilities. In addition to cleanroom based processing tools, the facilities will also have capabilities for metrology of semiconductor fabrication processes, wafer dicing, wire-bonding and packaging.

Outdoor Test Facility

QEERI’s comprehensive 35,000 square meters (sqm) Outdoor Test Facility (OTF), located at the Qatar Science and Technology Park, enables the research institute to understand which technologies are best suited to Qatar’s climate, and the best way of configuring and operating them. The OTF tests a wide variety of commercial and near-commercial technologies under Qatar’s harsh environmental conditions, to further analyze, develop, and test solar and other technologies that can be used in Qatar and across the region.
