Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), continues to establish itself as a leading service provider for market-driven research needs in Qatar, and has earned its place as a valuable testing services provider for local and international stakeholders.

QEERI offers the use and services of its world-class Core Labs, Energy, Corrosion, Environment and Sustainability Labs, Outdoor Test Facility, and solar and air quality monitoring stations, supported by the institute’s highly qualified and experienced scientists, researchers, and engineers. QEERI’s Core Labs not only provide analytical services in materials testing and characterization for commercial, industrial, ministerial and regulatory clients, but also collaborate with other research and education facilities. Ensuring the highest international standards are met, QEERI has achieved ISO certification for its Integrated Management System as well as select testing methods.

In addition to the high-quality technical and advisory services provided at its laboratories, local stakeholders and industrial partners also benefit from the research, development, and innovation produced at QEERI’s four centers, Natural and Environmental Hazards Observatory, Economics and Policy Program, and Earth Sciences Program. Technical services encompass corrosion management planning, electrochemical testing, and metallurgical studies (Corrosion Center); air quality monitoring and modeling, and environmental impact assessment (Environment and Sustainability Center); testing, inspection, analysis, and consultancy services for oil and gas, renewable, and chemical industries (Energy Center); and water management consultancy services, including the design of tailored water treatment processes (Water Center).

In 2019, QEERI established a Business Development team and since then has successfully provided a range of services to national and international partners, including government entities, ministries, semi-private bodies, and local companies in the energy, water, oil and gas, and sustainability sector. Team members spearheading the activities are Caroline Lee, Business Development Manager; Abeer Al Dosari, Stakeholder Relationship Manager; and Fathima Mona Thowfeek, Senior IP and Business Development Specialist.

One of QEERI’s trusted partners has been TotalEnergies Qatar. Reflecting on this ongoing cooperation, Yousef Al-Jaber, Vice President of Innovation and Change Management, and Director of TotalEnergies Research Centre-Qatar, says: “QEERI has been a long-standing partner for TotalEnergies, and over the years we have collaborated on solar energy, corrosion, and other fields of research for tackling the country’s energy challenges.

In addition to our shared sustainability vision, QEERI has supported academia and the energy industry as a whole by creating an ecosystem which fosters innovation through world-class researchers, facilities, and equipment. We are therefore proud of this valuable partnership, which has been strongly beneficial for the continuity and sustainability of our operations within the local energy sector.”

Dr. Marc Vermeersch, Executive Director, QEERI, explains why he sees this support to industry partners as vital: “Our goal as a research institute with a national mandate is to ensure that we can meet the research needs of the industry in Qatar, when it comes to sustainability and climate change. QEERI’s highly efficient Business Development team works closely with our stakeholders and partners to ensure that together we can work towards our shared goals of addressing the grand challenges that the country is facing in energy, environment, and water, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.”
