CPP and CIS Showcase Collaboration at IPPA Workshop

The College of Public Policy (CPP) and College of Islamic Studies (CIS) recently had the opportunity to showcase the first-year findings and progress of their collaborative research project “SDG Education and Global Citizenship in Qatar” at the International Workshop on Public Policy (IWPP). Organized by the International Public Policy Association (IPPA), the IWPP’s third edition was held from June 28-30 in Budapest, Hungary.

A program of 24 workshops discussed different domains of public policy. One of these workshops was led by Dr. Leslie A. Pal, Founding Dean of CPP, and Dr. Evren Tok, Assistant Dean of Innovation and Community Engagement and Associate Professor of Islam and Global Affairs at CIS. It was titled “Sustainable Development Goals Education for Global Citizenship: Policy Transfer and Knowledge Localization” and focused on the project’s aim to foster the creation of inclusive, multi-stakeholder, coordinated educational spaces and applications. In turn, these are aimed at improving the awareness and knowledge of students about global citizenship and the SDGs, and thereby increasing their levels of civic participation. The five-year project is funded by Qatar National Research Fund under the National Priorities Research Program (NPRP)-Cluster track.

Several CPP and CIS faculty and researchers (also part of the project) presented papers connected to the thematic focus of the workshops, including Dr. Logan Cochrane, CPP, and Dr. Hira Amin, Dr. S. Duygu Sever Mehmetoglu, Alina Zaman, and Muhammed Kebbeh from CIS. They joined public policy scholars from Brazil, Germany, Kazakhstan, and the United States.
