Government policies and projects that appear to produce promising results when initially implemented sometimes don’t live up to expectations when replicated and expanded. Governmental and non-governmental organizations that enjoy success at one task or mission may fail to repeat that success when they take on new but seemingly related tasks, even when those tasks do not appear to be more difficult. Additionally, organizations that enjoy success at one mission may shift their focus toward pursuits that benefit them more but provide less value to society.
This lecture examines the external challenges and internal organizational pressures that lead to these “perils of policy success” and considers different strategies to improve policy outcomes.
The lecture will be held in English.
