Despite the long history of subtitling in the Arab World, the current scholarship on this evolving field of audiovisual translation remains modest with a focus on mostly micro matters such as cultural references, taboo words, and euphemisation.
This presentation by Dr. Amer Al-Adwan reports on a first of its kind project in the Arab World aiming to map subtitling conventions adopted by local production firms, satellite channels, and individual subtitlers in the region.
The event will be conducted in English.
