The provost of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Dr. Khaled B. Letaief, has received the prestigious Marconi Prize Paper Award on Wireless Communications from the U.S.-based Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The award, which recognizes exceptional innovation in the field of electronics and computer engineering, was presented to the HBKU provost at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur during the IEEE International Conference on Communications, IEEE’s flagship conference on communications technologies.
Upon receiving the award, Dr. Letaief said: “I am delighted and honored to receive this prestigious international award, which recognizes innovation at the cutting edge of communications technologies and the best research output in the field of wireless communications published over the past three years in IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications – the premier journal to focus on this scientific discipline.
“I am particularly delighted to win the IEEE Marconi award while I am at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and this is in no small part because of the university’s commitment to using education and research to push the boundaries of our knowledge and skills for the benefit of Qatar and the rest of our interconnected world.”
The winning research paper, titled “Group Sparse Beamforming for Green Cloud-RAN”, was evaluated on the basis of its originality, utility, timeliness and clarity of presentation and was showcased at the 2016 prestigious conference. It had originally been published in the 2014 edition of the IEEE Transactions of Wireless Communications journal, in line with award requirements.
