Dr. Bouzerdoum has extensive experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership at the University level. He obtained the Ph.D. and Master degrees from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. Before joining HBKU in March 2017, he was a Senior Professor at the University of Wollongong, Australian, where he held the roles of Associate Dean Research and Head of School of Electrical, Computer & Telecommunications Engineering. From 2009 to 2011, he was a member of the Australian Research Council College of Experts and served as Deputy Chair of the EMI (Engineering, Mathematics and Informatics) panel. He also held several Visiting Professor Appointments at international institutions in France, USA, Germany, China, Hong Kong, and New Zealand. Most recently, Dr. Bouzerdoum was serving as Head of Information and Computing Technology (ICT) Division, College of Science and Engineering, and Acting Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
Dr. Bouzerdoum is the recipient of the Eureka Prize for Outstanding Science in Support of Defence or National Security and a Distinguished Researcher Award (Chercheur de Haut Niveau) from the French Ministry. He served as Associate Editor for 5 International journals, including IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics. He has published over 390 technical articles and graduated 57 Ph.D. and Research Master’s students.
