QBRI is located in the new 223,000m2 Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Research and Development Complex (RDC), which houses unparalleled state-of-the-art research capabilities. The QBRI building, is home to three research centers of excellence and five core facilities. The institute is already renowned for having some of the most sophisticated equipment and research apparatus, all available under one roof, in the Gulf region and worldwide.
Inaugurated in 2017, QBRI’s advanced laboratories are major hubs in driving forward cutting-edge research and innovation in Qatar and the region. They are positioned as modern, efficient, reliable and tightly-networked shared resource laboratories to guarantee idyllic support and scientific progression on several levels. QBRI’s world-class facilities are actively embedded in a growing national and international collaborative environment, including academic, clinical, and industry partners.
Alongside QBRI, the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) and Qatar Energy and Environment Research Institute (QEERI) are also housed in the same building. The strategic common location creates a unique and combined infrastructure that is specifically designed to comprehensively address the Grand Challenges identified in Qatar National Research Strategy. The proximity of these institutes is a research enabler and facilitator and enhances interdisciplinary interaction and cross-fertilization of ideas between the primary areas of research as identified by the Qatar National Research Strategy.
The proximity and close coordination of these research institutions offer support for QF’s research and development, processes and new products, while enabling cutting-edge research in the areas of energy, water, environment and biomedical research.
