Dr. Lew Tucker
Former VP and CTO of Cloud Computing, CiscoDr. Lew Tucker, former Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Cloud Computing at Cisco is a recognized leader in the industry focused on emerging technologies and the internet. He is a frequent speaker and has played a part in several major high-tech waves of innovation including high-performance computing, Java technology, and cloud computing. He is a recognized advocate of open source software and has served on the boards of the OpenStack Foundation, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, and Cloud Foundry.
Prior to joining Cisco, Lew was a Vice President at Sun Microsystems, where he was instrumental in the initial development of the Java Technology platform and the development of Sun’s cloud service offering. He has over 25 years of experience in the high-tech industry—ranging from distributed systems and artificial intelligence to parallel algorithms and systems architecture. Accomplishments include the development the open source OpenStack platform, Salesforce.com’s AppExchange, and contributing to the design and architecture of Thinking Machine’s massively parallel Connection Machine.
As the internet evolves, how applications scale to meet the demands of world-wide deployments remains a long-term interest. Lew holds a PhD and MS degree in Computer Science with a specialization in artificial intelligence from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Cornell University.
