Iman Ashkar earned her MSc in Molecular Medicine from Imperial College London, UK (2016), focusing on molecular biology in medicine for disease discovery, diagnosis, and management. Her project in Rutter Lab studied Type 2 Diabetes risk variants.
She then worked as a Research Associate in the Shahab Lab at the Translational Research Institute, HMC (2016-2017), assessing anti-cancer drugs in multiple myeloma cells. From 2018-2022, she was a Research Specialist in Suhre Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, identifying metabolic targets for therapeutic interventions in metabolic diseases. She is now finalizing her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Halama (WCMC-Q) and Dr. Kulms (Technical University of Dresden). As a Research Assistant with the Taheri group of the Qatar Diabetes Prevention Program, HMC (2023-2024), she supported patient-focused diabetes research projects.
Currently, she is a Research Associate in Dr. Omar El-Agnaf's Lab at QBRI, researching neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's Disease, focusing on biomarker development. Her work includes developing immunoassays, optimizing techniques, and conducting in vitro assays using disease models.
