The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) currently offers the largest selection of programs within the university and aspires to be a leading college committed to excellence in research and education with a major emphasis on interdisciplinary research and scholarship. It has established three divisions: the Division of Information and Computing Technology, the Division of Sustainable Development, and the Division of Engineering Management and Decisions Sciences. The Division of Science at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) HBKU is seeking applications for a laboratory instructor in Chemistry. The selected candidate will be responsible for effectively running the laboratory teaching sessions, ensuring safety, and providing high-quality education to students.
- Conduct laboratory sessions for undergraduate chemistry courses, supervising and guiding students through experiments and assisting with problem-solving.
- Prepare experimental setups, chemical solutions, and materials necessary for experiments, ensuring proper storage and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Demonstrate laboratory techniques and safety procedures to ensure student proficiency.
- Enforce laboratory safety protocols, ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards to protect students and staff. Proactively mitigate risks and maintain detailed safety records.
- Maintain the inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring resources are readily available and in good condition.
- Perform routine testing and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, including NMR, HPLC, MS, UV-VIS, and IR instruments.
- Grade laboratory reports, quizzes, and assignments, providing constructive feedback to students on their laboratory performance.
- Collaborate with faculty and laboratory staff to design innovative experiments that align with course objectives and enhance the student learning experience.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of new experiments through student feedback and performance analysis.
- A bachelor’s degree in chemistry from an accredited institution (a higher degree is preferred).
- Proficient in both the theoretical and practical aspects of laboratory experiments.
- Knowledgeable in laboratory safety procedures.
- Possess expertise in basic spectroscopy techniques: NMR, IR, UV-Vis, HPLC, GC and MS.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills in English, with strong presentation and computer skills.
- Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively in a diverse environment.
- A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and fostering student success.
- Prior experience in Chemistry laboratory instruction or a related field is highly desirable.
