Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development (QF), was founded in 2010 to continue fulfilling QF’s vision of unlocking human potential. The division of EMDS is home to the MSc/Ph.D. in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and the MSc in Sport and Entertainment Management. It is a multi-disciplinary unit designed to progress the interaction between humans, machines, management systems, infrastructure, and the global environment. In addition to its excellence in its core programs, one of the strengths of the EMDS division is its multidisciplinary research and teaching methods, which can cut across CSE programs within the Division of Information and Computing Technology and the Division of Sustainable Development.

The EMDS division's mission is expertise in engineering and business decision-making for products, services, transportation, information, and cash flows in sports, entertainment, logistics, and supply chain. It drives new research in big data, AI, manufacturing, and operations research. Creating interdisciplinary teams is a focus, attracting resources to support research goals. Collaboration brings the division's tech and expertise to various HBKU research themes. Strong industry-academia collaboration drives HBKU research development in the industry.

The Engineering Management and Decision Sciences (EMDS) division under the College of Science and Engineering is inviting applications for Open Rank Faculty Positions at Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels. The selected candidate will be responsible for advancing educational excellence and research innovation in the field of logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) (and related fields).

The candidate will also be responsible to conduct teaching, research, and service to contribute to HBKU becoming a world-class research university and collaborate with faculty members and students to create a vibrant university community that will positively impact and contribute to the development of Qatar and the region by advancing knowledge in their field and developing human capacity through their teaching.

  • Design and deliver postgraduate courses in LSCM and related fields.
  • Continuously update curriculum materials and instructional methods to maintain relevance with industry standards and technological advancements.
  • Supervise and mentor students in their research thesis and dissertation projects.
  • Actively seek and secure funding through research grants to support departmental and personal research initiatives.
  • Lead research projects that contribute to the knowledge base of LSCM and align with HBKU’s strategic goals.
  • Foster relationships with the logistics and supply chain industry to enhance the practical impact of academic research and teaching.
  • Contribute to the overall ecosystem by integrating industry insights into academic activities and collaborations.
  • Participate in various university and college committees.
  • Engage in a range of administrative duties and contribute to strategic planning and execution.
  • Provide service to the broader professional and lay community, both within Qatar and internationally, relevant to the academic specialty.
  • Disseminate research findings through scholarly presentations, publications, and community engagements to enhance HBKU’s reputation as a leader in research and education.

  • A Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline from a reputable university.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant full-time university teaching and research experience in the corresponding rank. Additional experience in higher education or related industry areas, demonstrating professional maturity and productivity, is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in teaching and student supervision, with a solid track record in curriculum and program development.
  • A robust portfolio of scholarly endeavors, including funded research grants, publications in international journals, intellectual property, or patents.
  • Evidence of a significant number of publications in top-tier journals within the Operations Management/Management Science field, in line with peers at same rank.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, cultures, and communities.
  • Advanced skills in simulation modeling and simulation-based optimization.
  • Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and supply chain analytics.
  • Expertise in service operations management.
  • In-depth knowledge of smart manufacturing, including the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies, AI, and IoT applications in industrial settings.
  • Experience applying the expertise across various key sectors, including healthcare, oil and gas, aviation, humanitarian logistics, and the services industry.
