The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) currently offers the largest selection of programs within the university and aspires to be a leading college committed to excellence in research and education with a major emphasis on interdisciplinary research and scholarship. It has established three divisions: the Division of Information and Computing Technology, the Division of Sustainable Development, and the Division of Engineering Management and Decisions Sciences. CSE faculty members are internationally recognized for pursuing high-impact research addressing societal and economic needs in Qatar and globally.
The Division of Science at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at HBKU is seeking applications for the position of Laboratory Instructor in Physics.
- Develop, assemble, and test experimental setups to ensure they are fully functional and meet the course objectives before being introduced to students.
- Maintain an inventory of lab equipment and materials, ensuring all resources are available and in good condition.
- Provide hands-on guidance and support to students during lab sessions, helping them understand physics concepts.
- Monitor student activities to ensure proper use of equipment and adherence to laboratory protocols.
- Follow and enforce safety protocols to protect students and staff from potential hazards.
- Keep detailed records of safety incidents and work proactively to mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with faculty and laboratory staff to design innovative experiments that align with course objectives and enhance the learning experience.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of new experiments through student feedback and performance analysis.
- Utilize Linux-based systems for data acquisition, experiment control, and analysis within the laboratory.
- Develop scripts and programs to automate laboratory processes and improve efficiency.
- Diagnose and repair laboratory equipment, to ensure smooth learning during the laboratory activities.
- Conduct routine maintenance and testing of machinery to prevent failures of the equipment.
- Provide technical support in the operation and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Operate and maintain 3D printers for the fabrication of custom experimental components. Manage the design and production of prototypes for the lab needs.
- A bachelor’s degree in physics from an accredited institution (a higher degree is preferred).
- A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and fostering student success.
- Prior experience in physics laboratory instruction or a related field is highly desirable.
